There is nothing better than a season full of baseball. SWAC offers baseball leagues for boys and girls ages 5 to 18 that fit all levels of competition.

Open - Grades

T-Ball

T-ball Fundamentals Overview

This program is designed for kids who are new to T-ball or who need extra work on skill building. The emphasis will be on skill building to provide a strong foundation for the participant. For Week 1-3, the volunteer coaches will assist the participants through the skill building exercises. Fundamental skills building is designed to encourage and teach your child fundamental skills—including throwing, catching, fielding ground balls and fly balls, hitting, base running, team play, and sportsmanship. We also want to stress the importance of FUN and SAFETY!

For Week 4 - 6, the participants can apply these skills to a casual game setting after 15 minutes of skills building.

Week 1 - Get to Know Each Other, Warm-up and Coaches Chat - 20 minutes; Skill building - 40 minutes (Skills 1-3).

Week 2 - Warm-up and Coaches Chat - 5 minutes; Skill Building - 55 minutes (Review Skills 1-3, work on Skills 4-6).

Week 3 - Warm-up and Coaches Chat - 5 minutes; Skill Building - 55 minutes (Work on Skills 1-6).

Week 4-6 - Warm-up and Coaches Chat - 5 minutes. Skills practice 10 minutes. Games for 45 minutes. Skills are outlined below.

T-ball and Pitching Machine Information

Rec Leagues and Pitching Machine leagues are intermediate and beginner leagues, while the Classic leagues are a little more competitive. Everyone gets to play in our leagues while making new friends and getting into shape. Players focus on learning new skills, improving last year's skills, reaching personal and team goals and having fun in the process. No experience necessary!

Open Leagues are for boys and girls.

  • Fundamental Leagues (T-Ball, Machine Pitch) All games at Linden Hills and Pershing Parks.
  • City-Wide Leagues (U11, U13 and U15) games played against other parks. About half the games will be home games, they away games will be at other parks primarily in South Minneapolis.

Rosters

  • Rosters will be finalized with coaches in early April
  • Fundamental League rosters will generally be capped at 10
  • City-wide rosters will generally be capped at 13

Practice

  • Coaches will determine their practice schedule.
  • Weather permiting, practices will likely begin a few weeks before the first game. * Practice time is built into the game nights for T-Ball, please see T-ball link.

Uniforms

  • Fundamental players will receive a T-Shirt and cap.
  • City-Wide players will receive a jersey, cap and socks.

The Southwest Activities Council (SWAC) was formed as an all volunteer organization to organize and administer Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board youth sports programs for the children in the southwest neighborhoods of Minneapolis.
